Sponsorships

Spirit of BC festivals, special events and sport tournaments can be costly to produce. That's why Spirit of BC Community Committees are encouraged to find local sponsors to help defray these costs and raise the profile of their events.

Spirit of BC is distinct and separate from the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, thus allowing for freedom to solicit sponsors outside of the Olympic-family of sponsors and partners.

For example, if "Joe's Pizza" in your community wants to sponsor your Spirit of BC Summer Picnic Jamboree, that would be acceptable. It would not infringe on any pre-arranged sponsor and partner agreements with 2010 Legacies Now or VANOC (the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games) because Spirit of BC Community Committees operate outside the 2010 brand.

Tips on Sponsorship

Congratulations! Your Spirit of BC Community Committee has secured local sponsorship from a business in your area. Here are some tips to be aware of:

  • Partner with sponsors that you feel proud to have associated with your program and the Spirit of BC name.
  • Is the partnering sponsor a good fit for the Spirit of BC Community Committee? For example, a brewery may not be an appropriate sponsor for a family-related event.
  • Provide value to your sponsor so they return next year; they want your event to be successful too.
  • Look for sponsors to offset expenses. For example, a local newspaper or cable provider would be a good fit to augment your advertising and promotions budget. Hospitality expenses can be offset by local hotels or restaurants.

Tips on Logos

  • Logos are important and valued. Double check they are accurate and well represented with your sponsor before printing or publishing marketing materials.
  • Less is more. Avoid cluttered sponsorship logos and messages on your signage.
  • Protect the Spirit of BC logo. Ensure sponsor logos are nearby and are not directly integrated into the Spirit of BC logo.
  • The Wrong Way

This is the wrong way to display the Spirit of BC logo and a sponsor. Both logos infringe on each other and the text below does not respect the name brands.
