Spirit of BC Week

Spirit of BC Week is a celebration of British Columbia and its unique communities.

Held annually in February, it’s a week of events and activities showcasing our pride in our province and profiling local programs and services that strengthen sport and recreation, healthy living, arts and culture, literacy and volunteerism.

Spirit of BC Week events and activities are organized by Spirit of BC community committees, in partnership with local government, business, educators, First Nations, and community-based organizations.

Spirit of BC Week 2009 took place February 6 through 14 with more than 300 events and activities. The fifth annual celebration included a province-wide Family Skate and Swim Day, as well as flag-raising ceremonies, arts performances and winter festivals. It was a great opportunity for communities throughout the province to mark the one-year countdown to the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

Spirit of BC Week 2009 partners included the Province of BC, BC Hydro and the BC Recreation and Parks Association through its Active Communities Initiative, which focuses on supporting communities to increase physical activity levels of British Columbians by 20 per cent by the year 2010.
