KELOWNA SPIRIT OF BC COMMUNITY COMMITTEE TO HOST REGIONAL ROUNDTABLE

Vancouver, B.C. (Nov. 21, 2006): 2010 Legacies Now and the Kelowna Spirit of BC Community Committee are hosting a regional roundtable for Spirit of BC committees in the Thompson Okanagan.

"Members of the Thompson Okanagan committees have been doing wonderful work in their own communities, supporting a range of activities and celebrating local achievements," said Allen Langdon, Director of the Spirit of BC program for 2010 Legacies Now. "This roundtable will give them a chance to share success stories and explore the benefits of working together as a region."

The roundtable runs Nov. 21-22 at the Manteo Resort. Attendees will include representatives from the following Spirit of BC committees: Greater Vernon, Kamloops, Lillooet, Lumby, North Okanagan, North Thompson Valley, Oliver-Osoyoos, Penticton, Shuswap and Summerland.

"Kelowna and the Thompson Okanagan have a lot to offer, and we're looking ahead to Spirit of BC Week 2007, B.C.'s 150th anniversary in 2008, the 2010 Winter Games, and beyond," said Cal McCarthy, chair of the Kelowna Spirit of BC committee. "This roundtable will help us find ways to work together to showcase the achievements of our people and our communities."

Five guest speakers will provide inspiration for strategic planning: Betty MacLeod, senior manager of Olympic business development, and Robin Smith, manager of business development, commercial markets, Kelowna, from Royal Bank of Canada; Chris Gudgeon, project manager for B.C. 2008, Ministry of Tourism, Sport and the Arts; Shaun Poole, community relations, Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games; and Ken Veldman, business connections manager, 2010 Commerce Centre.

Supported by 2010 Legacies Now and the Province of B.C., Spirit of BC is a province-wide initiative that promotes community innovation, pride and excellence, and involves British Columbians in the opportunities arising from the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
