KIMBERLEY SPIRIT OF BC COMMUNITY COMMITTEE HOSTS REGIONAL ROUNDTABLE
Vancouver, B.C. (May 1, 2007): 2010 Legacies Now and the Kimberley Spirit of BC Committee are hosting a roundtable for committees in the Kootenay Rockies region.
"Members of the Kootenay Rockies committees are building partnerships and creating and enhancing local programs to serve their communities and celebrate local achievements," said Allen Langdon, director of the Spirit of BC program for 2010 Legacies Now. "This roundtable gives Spirit of BC committees a chance to learn from each other and work together to reach shared goals that will benefit the entire region."
The roundtable runs May 1-2 at the Trickle Creek Residence Inn in Kimberley. The following communities will be represented by Spirit of BC committee members: Castlegar, Cranbrook, Creston, Kimberley, Fruitvale, Grand Forks, Montrose and Trail.
"The City of Kimberley has a lot to offer, including business opportunities, an active mountain lifestyle and a vibrant arts community," said Heather Hornoi, chair of the Kimberley Spirit of BC Committee. "We're excited to host this roundtable and talk with other Spirit of BC committees about how the Kootenay Rockies region can benefit from B.C. hosting the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games."
Guest speakers at the roundtable will include Ken Veldman, business connections manager for the 2010 Commerce Centre, and Trevor Kier with Tourism BC. Chris Gudgeon, a project manager for the Ministry of Tourism, Sport and the Arts, will also be on hand to talk about BC2008, a province-wide event celebrating B.C.'s 150th anniversary.
"As we get closer to the 2010 Winter Games, the opportunities will become even greater and we want communities of every size and from every region involved," said Colin Hansen, Minister of Economic Development and Minster Responsible for the Olympics. "Events like this roundtable are helping communities identify ways to come together and turn their Olympic dreams into reality."
