RICHMOND SPIRIT OF BC COMMUNITY COMMITTEE
Vancouver, BC (January 22, 2007): 2010 Legacies Now and the Richmond Spirit of BC Committee are hosting a roundtable for Spirit of BC committees in the Lower Mainland region.
"Members of the Lower Mainland committees have been building partnerships in their own communities to support a range of activities and celebrate local achievements," said Allen Langdon, director of the Spirit of BC program for 2010 Legacies Now. "This roundtable will give them a chance to share success stories and work together to reach common goals."
The roundtable runs Jan. 22 at Richmond City Hall. Joining the Richmond Spirit of BC Committee will be representatives from the following committees: Abbotsford, Bowen Island, Burnaby, Chilliwack, Delta, Hope, Langley, Mission, New Westminster, North Shore, Pemberton Valley, Port Coquitlam, Surrey and White Rock.
"People living in the Lower Mainland have a lot of community spirit and pride, and we're excited to showcase our achievements during Spirit of BC Week 2007 and celebrations for B.C.'s 150th anniversary in 2008," said Ronald Coleman, chair of the Richmond Spirit of BC Committee. "We also want to ensure our communities share in the benefits of B.C. hosting the 2010 Winter Games. This roundtable will help us find ways to do that."
Guest speakers at the roundtable will include: Chris Gudgeon, project manager for B.C. 2008, Ministry of Tourism, Sport and the Arts; Stephanie Herdman, communications coordinator with the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC); Robert Kerr, program director for the Cultural Olympiad, VANOC; Ken Veldman, business connections manager, 2010 Commerce Centre; and Economic Development Minister Colin Hansen, who is Minister responsible for the Olympics.
"As we get closer to the 2010 Winter Games, the opportunities will become even greater and we want communities of every size and from every region involved," said Hansen. "Through events like this roundtable, we hope to help communities turn their Olympic dreams into reality."
