NORTH PEACE SPIRIT OF BC COMMUNITY COMMITTEE HOSTS REGIONAL ROUNDTABLE
Vancouver, B.C. (Apr. 16, 2007): 2010 Legacies Now and the North Peace Spirit of BC Committee are hosting a roundtable for Spirit of BC committees in the North-East region.
"Members of the North-East committees have been working hard at developing partnerships and programs in their own communities to support a range of activities and celebrate local achievements," said Allen Langdon, director of the Spirit of BC program for 2010 Legacies Now. "Having roundtables like this allows communities to share success stories and work together to reach common goals."
The roundtable runs Apr. 16 at the Fort St. John Quality Inn. Joining the North Peace Spirit of BC committee will be representatives from the following communities: Chetwynd, Dawson Creek, Fort St. John, Hudson's Hope, Mackenzie and Taylor.
"Committee members for the North Peace are very excited to host the North-East region roundtable," said Tammy Danshin, chair of the North Peace Spirit of BC Committee. "This roundtable gives us the chance to come together and plan out how our communities can take part in BC2008 celebrations and benefit from B.C. hosting the 2010 Winter Games."
Two project managers from the Ministry of Tourism, Sport and the Arts will be speaking at the roundtable. Chris Gudgeon and Céline Anderson will discuss the opportunities available for B.C. communities during BC2008, a province-wide event celebrating B.C.'s 150th anniversary. Information regarding BC2008 can be found at www.bc2008.gov.bc.ca.
"As we get closer to the 2010 Winter Games, the opportunities will become even greater and we want communities of every size and from every region involved," said Colin Hansen, Minister of Economic Development and Minster Responsible for the 2010 Winter Games. "Events like this roundtable are helping communities identify ways to come together and turn their Olympic dreams into reality."
"By working with our neighbours in the North-East, Fort St. John can better position itself to attain the full benefits offered by the BC2008 celebration and the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games," said Richard Neufeld, Peace River North MLA.
